# Understanding Your Role

As an Institution Admin, you oversee your whole institution — every campus,
every program, and everyone in them.

## How Your Scope Works [#how-your-scope-works]

CareCard has three institution-side reviewer roles. Each one sees a different
part of the organization:

| Role                                                            | Can see                                          |
| --------------------------------------------------------------- | ------------------------------------------------ |
| **Institution Admin** (you) | The whole institution — every campus and program |
| [**Campus Admin**](/care-card-guide/campus-admin) | Only the campuses they administer |
| [**Program Coordinator**](/care-card-guide/program-coordinator) | Only the programs they coordinate |

You see everything they see. The Campus Admins and Program Coordinators under
you see only their part.

But seeing is not the same as doing. You can look at every campus and program,
but each Campus Admin and Program Coordinator still does their own work.

<Callout type="info">
  You can't give yourself this role. Another Institution Admin — or CareCard staff — invites you. The
  invitation shows up on your **Home** dashboard, and the role starts working only after you accept
  it.

## What's on Your Side Menu [#whats-on-your-side-menu]

Your side menu shows **Home**, **Insights**, **Requests**, **Users**, **Tags**,
and **Institution**. **Messages** and **My Files** sit at the bottom.

**More** opens the rest of your tools — **Programs**, **Requirement Items**,
**Templates**, and **Program Templates**.

## The Year and Term Selector [#the-year-and-term-selector]

A year and term selector sits in the top bar. Requests, users, programs, and
program templates all follow what you pick there.

## What You Do [#what-you-do]

**Keep your institution current**

* [Managing Your Institution](/care-card-guide/institution-admin/managing-your-institution) —
  Your institution's profile, its campus list, and the programs and terms under
  each campus.

**Put people in charge**

* [Adding Admins and Coordinators](/care-card-guide/institution-admin/adding-admins-and-coordinators) —
  Add Campus Admins and Program Coordinators anywhere in your institution, plus
  other Institution Admins.

**Let people in**

* [Reviewing Institution Access Requests](/care-card-guide/institution-admin/reviewing-requests) —
  Approve, reject, or ask for more info on requests. Campus Admins and Program
  Coordinators review these with you.

**Keep track of everyone**

* [Tags](/care-card-guide/institution-admin/tags) and [Tracking
  Progress](/care-card-guide/institution-admin/tracking-progress) — See and
  group everyone across your whole institution, not one campus.
* [Messaging](/care-card-guide/institution-admin/messaging) —
  Message the people in your institution.

## What You Can't Do [#what-you-cant-do]

**You can't decide on documents.** Only CareCard staff can Approve, Reject, or
Hold a submitted document. You won't see a **Verification** page.

**You can't create a new campus or institution.** CareCard staff set those up.
You can still add and edit programs under your campuses, and add terms — see
[Managing Your Institution](/care-card-guide/institution-admin/managing-your-institution).
