# Understanding Your Role

As a reviewer, you open a document a student sent in and make a decision on it.
No admin or coordinator at the institution does this — reviewing is CareCard's
job.

## How Your Scope Works [#how-your-scope-works]

Only CareCard staff review submissions, across every institution.

## What You Do [#what-you-do]

**Review submitted documents**

* Open a submission, read the document, and choose a decision — **Approve**,
  **Reject**, or **On Hold**.
* When you approve, set how long the approval lasts — a dated **Expiry**, or
  **Never expires**.
* Add a **Comment** with your decision. The student reads it.
* Change a decision that's already recorded, and reassess when the student
  uploads again.

## What You Can't Do [#what-you-cant-do]

**You can't manage the institution.** Campuses, programs, users, tags, and
access requests are the institution admins' job.

**You can't build requirements.** Program Coordinators create requirements and
assign them to a program. If a student has none, that's a coordinator's setup
gap, not a review problem.
