Standard First Aid Certificate

How to prepare a workplace first aid certificate when your program or placement assigns this requirement.

Applicability: Your program or placement may assign workplace first aid training.

CareCard catalogue default: 365 days.

Evidence reviewed: August 31, 2026

Ontario renamed Standard First Aid to Intermediate First Aid on June 22, 2026. Your CareCard requirement may still use the earlier name. Confirm the accepted course and provider before you register.

What your assigned requirement may ask for

  • A complete certificate showing your name
  • The training provider and course level
  • The issue or completion date and certificate expiry date
  • A certificate number or validation information, when the provider supplies it

Upload every relevant page or side of the certificate. A registration receipt, course advertisement, or attendance confirmation may not prove successful certification.

Current guidance

The Workplace Safety and Insurance Board updated Ontario's First Aid Program on June 22, 2026. Standard First Aid is now called Intermediate First Aid. Workplace first aid training must be delivered by a WSIB-approved provider or an affiliate working for one. Certificates issued before the change remain valid until their stated expiry, and Ontario workplace first aid certificates are valid for three years from issue.

A program or placement may still require more recent training or a particular course. Confirm its rules even when the certificate itself remains valid.

CareCard validity

CareCard's current catalogue default is 365 days. This shorter tracking period does not change the WSIB certificate's three-year validity. The expiry shown on your assigned requirement controls what CareCard accepts.
